Extension Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Bacharu browser extension for Firefox and Chrome, which marks VTubers on Twitch, YouTube and X. The extension collects nothing about you: no analytics, no telemetry, no tracking, and no account.

What Leaves Your Browser

Channel handles on pages you visit. When you open a Twitch, YouTube or X page, the extension collects the channel names shown on that page and sends them to bacharu.io/api/vtubers/resolve to ask which have a Bacharu profile - for example twitch:peachfrostvt.

Twitch chat usernames. With the “B badges in chat” option on (default), the extension also reads the usernames of people talking in the chat you have open and sends those handles through the same lookup, so VTubers in chat get a badge. Only the username is used - message text is never read, sent or stored - and handles are not linked to you or kept after the lookup. Turn it off in Settings → Twitch.

Nothing else about the page is sent: not the URL, not page content, not what you watch, not the text of any message.

If you connect your Twitch account (optional), the extension calls Twitch's official API from your browser to read your follow list and which channels are live. That data travels from Twitch to your browser only. It is never sent to bacharu.io or anywhere else.

What Stays On Your Device

  • Favorites and lists - kept in your browser's extension sync storage. They follow your browser profile if browser sync is enabled, and are never uploaded to Bacharu.
  • Your Twitch access token - stored in local extension storage on that device only, deliberately not in sync storage. It is read-only and limited to the user:read:follows scope. Revoke it with Disconnect in settings, or from your Twitch connections page.
  • Cached lookups - profile results cached locally for 24 hours (misses for 7 days) to avoid repeat requests. Clearable in Settings → Data.

Update Checks

The Firefox build is distributed by us rather than through addons.mozilla.org, so Firefox periodically asks bacharu.io/extension/updates.json whether a newer version exists. That is an ordinary web request made by the browser: it carries your IP address and the extension version, nothing about your browsing. The Chrome build does not do this.

What We Do Not Do

  • No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or usage tracking.
  • No advertising, and no data sold or shared with third parties.
  • No account required - the extension does not know who you are.
  • No reading or storing of chat message text, watch history or page content.
  • No linking of anything sent to us to you - lookups carry channel handles only, no identifier, cookie or account.

Permissions

  • storage - save your favorites, lists and settings.
  • bacharu.io - resolve channel handles to VTuber profiles; Firefox update checks.
  • api.twitch.tv, id.twitch.tv - optional Twitch login and follow list.
  • Twitch, YouTube and X page access - show badges and the sidebar interface on those sites.

The extension requests no other host access.
