Lore

Apophis (also known as Apep or Abib) is a mythical being in ancient Egyptian mythology, embodying evil, chaos, and darkness, and is called the "enemy of Ra" (the sun god).

Appearance and Symbolism: He usually appears as a giant serpent coiled upon itself, or sometimes as a crocodile or a giant lizard. He is a symbol of the destructive force that threatens the cosmic order (Ma'at).

The Mythical Conflict: According to the myth, Apophis attacks the chariot of the god Ra every night during its journey through the underworld, attempting to devour him and plunge the world into darkness. However, Ra always defeats him at dawn, which explains the rising of the sun.

Origin: He is believed to have been born from the saliva of the goddess Neith (the goddess of war and hunting). He is the only divine being who is not worshipped. Ancient Egyptians offered sacrifices to him to appease his wrath or ritually burned his statues to suppress his evil. The name was also historically used as a symbolic title for the Hyksos kings (such as Apophis I) who conquered Lower Egypt, as the Egyptians associated the invading conquerors with the idea of absolute evil. Later, the name "Apophis" was given to a small asteroid discovered by NASA in 2004 due to its potential threat to Earth.
