In an alternate world populated with anthropomorphic dogs, Cole was a programmer for a weapons manufacturing company. After learning he (might) have a terminal disease, he attempts to transfer his consciousness into his company's prototype combat drone and run away with it. He succeeds in the transfer, but is caught. With no way to return the drone as his old body died in the transfer, he's saddled with an obscene debt to the company.
