Leila Rosenfell

Leila was the daughter of a 19th century aristocratic family, always pressured to stay focused on appearing perfect.

Growing up, she used her mentorship with a talented dollmaker she met in the market as a way to find acceptance and develop her skills, but as time went by he began being verbally abusive whenever she'd make any mistake on her art.

Realizing that both him and her parents would never accept her for who she is, she decided to run away with her best and only friend to join the traveling circus, her as a creator of props, him as a performer.

On the night she was supposed to met her friend, she went to say one last goodbye to the dollmaker. He did not take it well in the slightest, and feeling betrayed, tried to take her life. He left her in an awful state down the bottom of the stairs of the atelier, in the basement, in a secret room that he used to hold a life-sized recreation of Leila.

There she was left, and as she was dying she realized that despite her always having thoughts that every horrible event in her life was her own fault, it wasn't true. She deeply regreted not being more forgiving with herself. Finally coming to accept herself, she hugged the doll that represented her, and in her own arms she lost her life.

But, that isn't where her story ended. Her spirit attached itself to the vessel of the porcelain doll. When the dollmaker, her former mentor, came into the room, she pretended she wasn't able to move, deeply afraid of being hurt by him again. With that fear, she also had something else. Anger and resentment. Why did he think he had the right to take her life into his hands?

After he turned his back and walked up the stairs, everything was a blur. The next thing she knew, the weapon that he used to kill her was in her ball jointed hands, dripping onto the hardwood floor with blood that wasn't her own.

Leila ran as quickly as she could. She knew she had to get away from town, and if the circus troupe was still in town, it'd be the perfect opportunity. She found her friend. He was shocked, of course, seeing the state she was in. It was clear she wasn't human anymore. But he accepted her nonetheless, saying that all that mattered was she was still with him.

Together, they left town with the circus troupe.

She worked with them for many years after that. First, just as a prop artist, then moved into performing, herself. Eventually though, the circus became out of style, and people began asking more questions about her state. It was getting clear she wasn't human. She didn't look like she aged a day in all the years she spent with the troupe. So, she started isolating herself, taking up small jobs where she didn't have to show much of her face to avoid suspicion.

Her life away from society was safe, but very lonely. When the internet came out, she was ecstatic, finally being able to talk to humans without having them find out her true nature. She started sharing her art online, started taking online jobs. Her life was far easier.

In 2020, vtubing became widespread. She took notice, and loved the concept. She thought it was perfect for her circumstance. She made up her mind. She'd become a vtuber.

Finally being able to take the stage after more than a 100 years of perfect annonymity, she knows she'll feel that same sweet validation in her veins, that same excitement she had performing in the circus. And now, at a safe distance.
