Controversy
Starting in February 2025, mafuyu became the subject of a heated controversy on Japanese social media when a male streamer by the name of "riarubusu" (りあるぶす, lit. "realugly") who claimed to be her ex-boyfriend, came out on Twitter with various allegations of her abusive behavior including cheating, domestic violence, and pet neglect. He posted various forms of evidence including screenshot leaks of their LINE message conversations, photographs of their cats and even recorded videos of her threatening him.
The scandal blew up to such a degree that it later even attracted the attention of English-speaking VTubers like Rima Evenstar, who made a video about the matter.
Indefinite hiatus
On 14 August, mafuyu posted a statement on Twitter, containing her formal apology to her fans, an admission that she was in a past relationship with her accuser, a denial of all of his allegations, a declaration that she has initiated legal proceedings for damages from his leaked photos and videos, and an announcement of her indefinite hiatus from streaming activities to focus on illustration work.
