Märpo Elder

Märpo Elder is an Elder God based on Nodens, a deity associated with the sea, healing, hunting, and dogs. Within the Cthulhu Mythos, Elder Gods are considered among the few cosmic entities that show a degree of tolerance toward humanity.

In ancient ages, Märpo was known for pursuing Nyarlathotep, a being who delighted in walking among humans... and spreading madness and despair. To Märpo, hunting such a cunning and elusive existence was simply entertaining. Through these hunts, Märpo encountered humanity again and again.

At first, humans were merely another curiosity. Yet the more Märpo observed them, the stranger they seemed. Though fragile and short-lived, every individual carried a life that unfolded in unexpected ways. To Märpo, these lives resembled countless stories, each different from the last.

Fascinated by this endless variety, Märpo began collecting these stories. Eventually they created a place called Lorelume Pavilion in the southern seas of the Dreamlands, a realm that can be reached through dreams. The place exists between journeys, where wandering travelers, strange beings, or occasionally invited guests may arrive and speak with its host.

Märpo offers visitors unusual drinks that resemble cocktails or potions. Each drink carries a different effect. Some allow one to relive memories. Others reveal emotions, grant courage, erase pain, or bring peaceful dreams. Most of these drinks are given freely. Märpo rarely asks for payment.

What Märpo truly gathers are stories. When someone enters the pavilion, their memories are quietly copied and preserved. To Märpo, every life is another tale worth reading.

There is, however, a single drink that demands a genuine price from the one who asks for it.

Butterflies are one of Märpo's most recognizable symbols. In their lore, these butterflies are transformed Nightgaunts that serve Nodens. They represent transformation, rebirth, connection, and the endless cycle of life and death.

White roses appear alongside them as another symbol. They represent purity, youth, and new beginnings. Butterflies drifting through white roses symbolize the beginning of new stories and the many stages of life that follow.

After observing humanity for ages, Märpo eventually came to an unusual conclusion. Simply watching stories from afar was no longer satisfying. A story, after all, becomes far more interesting when one participates in it.

For this reason, Märpo began living among humans in the modern world. Out of curiosity they tried many aspects of human culture, including hobbies, entertainment, and even cosplay. At one point Märpo appeared publicly in the form of an extremely handsome male character. This experiment ended rather quickly when the attention it attracted became overwhelming.

Finding the situation troublesome, Märpo simply altered their appearance and began presenting themselves in a feminine form instead. As an Elder God, such distinctions are of little importance to them.

In the end, Märpo adopted a new way to meet humans and hear their stories. Streaming became a convenient method to encounter countless people and observe the unpredictable narratives of human lives in real time. Show more
