They are respected for their intellectuality, and are also known advocates of anti-censorship, freedom of speech, the good and fair treatment of others, consumer rights, and better quality AAA video games. They are not afraid to criticize malicious and self-righteous bad actors online, and challenge toxic societal norms through their music. They detest arrogant and pretentious individuals. Often reminding their community to be " Good and Humble " people. Their goal is to review every Nintendo and Sega 8-bit and 16-bit era video game for their blog. They also dream of independently publishing physical Japanese mangas, as well as vinyl records of their albums world wide.
Background
Melody Hayashi and Rina Muya are born 2002 in their hometown in Japan. It is unknown where they live, because they take their privacy and security very seriously. At 8 years old, they moved to the United States for their Fathers' careers for their car company. They lived in Los Angeles county and it was very rough for them. Especially for Rina, as she was a target for bullying. They met in their American 3rd grade class as transfer students. The first time they spoke, Mel confronted one of Rina's bullies who was pulling on her ears. Mel pushed her to the ground and she ran away crying with scraped knees. They instantly became friends and have been ever since.
Mel being very protective and less tolerating, stood up for Rina throughout their five years of living in Los Angeles. She physically fought their bullies. It is unknown if Rina also fought along side Mel, but there is one crucial incident that had them both charged with misdemeanor assault on school grounds. This had them serve a 90-Day Probation Period and Labor Community Services. Their Fathers then got approval to transfer back to their home town in Japan, taking pay cuts and causing financial troubles for their families. However, there is no resentment, as their parents are very loving and supportive of the two. Their families became very close over the years. Having joint family gatherings during holidays, and Mel and Rina have grown to call each other Sisters.
Back in their hometown, Mel and Rina started and graduated high school with honors in 2019. During the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, they enrolled in a Japanese community college online. They took a guitar learning curriculum course together and found that they both enjoy playing music together. While assisting each other with their assignments, they were watching animes and poking fun at American dubs for how they sound. Rina then began imitating an American voice actress and they discovered she is very good at it. It was decided right then they will become a band. Their parents bought them their instruments and they practiced everyday throughout the pandemic quarantine period.
Debut album
Their band, “ Mel and Rina ”, is considered to be Alternative and J-Rock genres. They produce and play entirely themselves in their home’s garage. They enjoy creating concept albums, with written fictional plots published on their blog. Their signed publisher and distributor, “ IndiePublishings ”, only handles the American copyrighting to keep their identities safe, so they won’t be doxxed by bad actors. Their debut album, "2 Girls - 1 Quest", contains three songs with a storyline. The story goes that Rina was gifted a mysterious Famicom video game from a local thrift store owner. When playing the game, they discovered it was a RPG with classic character classes. Rina named herself the mage character and Mel the warrior character. Upon pressing start, the game magically isekai them into the game world. There they've woken up and was greeted by young boy prince named Daiki. Daiki had summoned them with a magical book. Now armed with a warrior sword and a mage staff, the three set off on their journey to defeat the evil Demon King and find their way home. The three story songs bring a beginning, a climax and an end to their adventure. The rest of their album consist of alternative rock, bubblegum rock, J-Rock, and dance music. They seem to take their personal life experiences and vent them into their album. Their songs criticize toxic social norms, bullying, immaturity, self-destructive habits and delusions, overcoming being socially ostracized and outcasted by your peers, triumphantly accomplishing your own goals, and being accountable for your own life. It is very heart tugging and may even cause tears to those who have similar experiences. It can offend those they are criticizing, but I believe that's the idea. Overall, it is a very uplifting album, bringing a very empowering musical experience.

Melody or just Mel for short, is an anthropomorphic Anime Bunny Girl. She is the more level headed and assertive of the pair. She reviews the American Region Nintendo Games for her co-owned Blog with Rina, " Honest Game Reviews ", and is the Co-Vocalists, Guitarists, Keyboard Synthesizer Player and Co-Composer for their independent duel band, " Mel and Rina ". With a fair, logical and collected demeanor, she comments almost daily on several topical YouTube commentator videos. She builds her following with based takes on controversial issues. Particularly involving freedom of speech and creativity. She is an avid anti-censorship advocate for Japanese media entertainment and video games. She is also seen advocating for the fair treatment of men from misandry and pretentious women. Overall, she is very morally supportive for all good people. She is very appreciative and not above responding to all her fans, and even giving them productive advise when needed. She genuinely cares and is very thoughtful for others. She may come off as a stern personality. But once you interact with her, you’ll find she's coming from a caring heartfelt place. Rina is an anthropomorphic Anime Cow Girl. Rina is the more sensitive and nurturing personality of the dual. Bringing a positive balance and cooperative dynamic of their team and friendship. She can seem a bit innocent with her sweet and bubbly personality, but has the same level of ambition and determination as Mel. She is the creative initiator and innovator of their team endeavors. Also, she is known to be sexually positive and not afraid to be lewd. She reviews the retro Sega games for her co-owned Blog with Mel. Rina is celebrated for her stance on anti-censorship, creator artistic freedom, freedom of speech, consumer rights, pro physical media, and overall better quality entertainment from AAA gaming companies. She's an avid fan of classic hardcore games such as Mortal Kombat and Doom. And she's not afraid to express her admiration for attractive fictional characters and sexual fan service in animes and video games. Rina is a survivor of severe depression. Having a very rough childhood along with Mel, the two triumphantly hurdle their way out of all their life hardships and difficulties together. Taking on and beating any antagonists in reality and in their fictional stories. She is the more prominent co-vocalists of their dual band. Leading the rhythm sections of their music as the drums and bass guitar player. Having a very high-pitch anime character voice, Mel must use a synthesized filter and autotune to match her key to sing in unison. Rina is very kind to her community. Being very welcoming and inclusive for her fans. However, there are instances of her retaliating harshly to those who ridicule her maliciously. Proving she can hold her own ground without Mel backing her up. Just like Mel, she enjoys video games, movies and animes. She's a big fan of mangas and American comics. She loves yummy treats and maintains her figure by dancing to music. Her favorite music genres are alternative, dance and beats. Rina is a Fan of the "Kamen America" comics. 2024
Sometime in 2024, Mel and Rina launched their retro video game review blog and rebooted their YouTube Channels to their current brand. In July 4th 2024, they released their debut album, with the help with their American friend and publisher, Joe Kennedy. Joe is the co-founder of the " IndiePublishings " company and acts as Mel and Rina's Publicity Manager. Joe met Mel ad Rina while attending Amime Expo in 2023. They have been friends since. He is seen interacting with Mel and Rina's community during their livestreams as their dedicated moderator. Mel and Rina are consistently producing whole music albums annually.
Anonymity and security
Mel and Rina take their personal privacy and security very seriously. They are honors college graduates, have regular careers. and their own private house mortgaged in their hometown in Japan. There are no clues as of what they really look like or where they live, as they never post actual photos of themselves. There is only one short IRL video of them rehearsing in their home's garage studio. Mel is playing her guitar and Rina can be heard playing her drums from behind. It is intentionally heavily altered and distorted, so there is no way to recognize them. Even the sound is distorted to avoid copyright claims, as they are practicing a cover of " Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) " by the band, Journey. The video was recorded and uploaded by their manager and publisher, Joe Kennedy, when he visited their home in Japan. The only legal records of them that is public is their verified credits for composing and singing in their songs on major music platforms such as Spotify, as well as their verified official YouTube Artist Channel. Mel is also a YouTube Content Partner and has her community paying to be sponsoring Channel Members for exclusive perks. They are also registered as Composers with A.S.C.A.P. ( American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers ) with their publisher for their music.
There are only a few videos of them speaking naturally unfiltered, but they speak in unison. In their music, they use synthesizers and guitar pedals to distort their vocals. They also sing in unison in most of their their songs. In most of their videos, they have cloned and digitalized their real voices to a text-to-speech program. It is explained that this way people can never recognize their voices in public. They annually visit their parents who have returned to Los Angeles in 2023 for their Fathers' careers with their company, and attend Anime Expo as attendees. They wish to never be bothered in public. It is also to protect their voices from being stolen by A.I. scrapers, and to prevent malicious bad actors from impersonating them. Rina has stated that she is severely not ok with having her voice stolen, and has a valid fear of being doxxed online and stalked by people.
