Saku Konpaku is a soul mage that has passed on from his previous world, living a life of many battles. In the end, he bound his soul into his staff, which was found centuries later by a passing group of adventurers. Those adventurers took him on a journey, in order to aid him in completing his final mission. Once complete, he finally severed his binding in order to move on to the afterlife.

Instead of the expected afterlife, Saku Konpaku woke up alive in a foreign world, his body restored, and in front of a shrine dedicated to the frog gods. He shows his gratitude to them for his new life of peace by taking care of the shrine and its' frogs, and through worship. He is now being watched over by his hat, which he calls "The Witness", for he does not speak the language of the frog gods.
