Shiki's model was originally designed to be a service robot. However, due to the persistent glitches appearing on their body, they were deemed unusable and abandoned. Unable to understand the reason for their abandonment, they made a deal with a friendly looking person (later found to be a demon) to obtain emotions in order to understand humans better. The price for this gift, however, was their memory.
