Lore
When instant noodles were first invented, there was an earlier, secret prototype. A tired food scientist made it late at night in his tiny apartment. The broth was too strong, the noodles were a bit weird, and he decided it was a failed experiment. He left the cup on a shelf, forgot about it… and life went on. Years passed. The scientist moved away. The city changed. But the prototype cup stayed in that apartment, gathering dust, smells, sounds.
Under that same apartment, someone opened a small internet café, a place for people who didn’t have a PC at home, or just didn’t want to be alone. Through the floor Umami could hear laughter, rage, keyboard clacks, and quiet “ggs” from strangers. Many years later, the forgotten prototype finally woke up. Turns out a century of being ignored, plus nonstop gamer noise from the floor below, is enough to give instant noodles a soul.
Curious, she drifted closer and closer to the noise until she started spending her nights around the club, watching people play, listening to their stories, and learning what gaming and streaming even are.
But time moved on again. Internet cafés weren’t as popular anymore, and the club slowly went quiet. The owner went broke, the lights turned off, and the place that once felt alive became empty.
Umami didn’t want it to stay that way.So she did what she was always meant to do: she opened a noodle shop in the same spot. And because she missed the old gaming club feeling (people showing up, watching someone play, chatting like they’re in the same room), she opened an online version too: her streams, a virtual noodle counter where the hangout never has to close.
If humans could turn a lonely night into a shared adventure… why couldn’t she? (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)
