A billion years ago, the fungal entity we refer to as "The Top" consumed the Dwarf Planet Eris in the outer Solar System.

Now a Fungal Being the size of a Dwarf Planet is pretty big, so it creates lifeforms to perform its functions: Move digested resources from one part of the entity to be re-processed by another, guide nutrients around, and repair any damage.

The Top, having observed Earth and probing (consensual!) of it's inhabitants allowed it to create a similar lifeforms: The Erisians.

That's where Betty comes in! Betty Von Buttpants, who started life as a thinker before transitioning to a shaker, was elected President of the planet on a platform of taking over Earth in five Erisian Years (2785 Earth years). She ruled for about a year until a disagreement with the top over her scientist Vince led her and her crew to pull a Beeblebrox, steal the Star Goblin and journey towards the inner solar system in search of a new home.
