Hisui Hotaru

Once upon a time, Long before idols and waifus came to light, the goddess of nature buried a single emerald deep within the earth. With the blessings of the Goddess, the emerald grew into a vast, beautiful forest. Magic filled the air, leaves glowing like mystic lanterns at night. Elegant creatures were born one by one with the blooming flowers. Their golden wings shimmered, like sunlight caught in the glass. Humans began to dwell near the forest, building chapels, villages and kingdoms. The humans would bring offerings to the fairies, and in return the fairies would bless them with elemental magic. But one day... something changed.

They began to believe the fairies' golden wings held great power. The human king ordered for the fairies to be captured. Their wings taken, believing they could also fly across the world just like them. The foolish mortals were cursed, illness began to spread throughout the village. And no fairies to help them. With his final strength, the elder of the forest raised a barrier of emerald light - sealing the forest away from humankind forever.

Years passed without the presence of fairies... until one night. The forest was illuminated with golden light, seen from around the world. Hotaru, the princess of the Hisui forest was born. She grew up without wings, but the fireflies never left her side. Her favourite activity was to nap with Kurumi, her Momonga companion.

"Don't go out of the forest" warned the elders. Hotaru never cared as her home was in her bed. It wasn't until she heard a faint, beautiful voice beyond the barrier. She followed the voice up on a hill next to the forest. A girl with a heavenly look, sang with her bewitching voice. Hotaru couldn't help but to fall in love.

She discovered her one true oshi.

The girl made her heart feel warm in a way she couldn't understand. Every week on the same grassy hill, Hotaru would listen to her recital behind the trees. She began to wonder... How would it feel to sing so freely?

Years passed. Seasons changed.

The beautiful girl stopped singing in their secret place. Waiting and waiting... Hotaru visits the area, hoping to see her once again One of the elders told her "Time flows differently in the forest." "No! That can't be!!" Hotaru cries, wishing to see her idol once more.

Determined, she hops onto Kurumi's back and leaves her home. The forest watched silently as its little princess flew away. Where is she going? One might ask.

On a journey to find her own voice.
