Jiu Xiao was an assassin and was taken in by Mu when they were kids. When he was still alive, Mu took Jiu Xiao in while he was still in his childhood. Since Mu and Jiu Xiao met each other since they were kids. Hence their relationship was as close as brothers. One was the knight captain and the other was the assassin who protected him.
