Lady Selch was a selkie born in 1801 living only as a seal until after hearing the stories of the older selkies for years decided to go to the human world and try living amoungst them, she took the warnings about keeping her seal skin/pelt safe and wears it like a dress.
As technology progressed the more time she would come and the longer she would stay on land.
As to what kind of seal she is is, "You will have to find that out on your own."
