When ever a spirit, or Yokai, gains enough notoriety or honor, the surrounding people usually construct a dwelling for such a spirit in the form of a Shrine. This is to make sure the spirit lives comfortably within the boundaries of the village and continue to bring great fortune and protection to it's people. At that point the Yokai ascends to a... Kami.
Tenji's mother was one such Kami, her benevolence and dedication to the mountain and it's people was met with great gratitude and worship by both spirit and human alike. After a long while, the mother fell in love with a human, and like most of these love-crossed tales, a tragedy was bound to happen.
Yet love and life still finds a way, and Tenji was born. The villagers took care of them, as soon enough, Tenji would be the one to protect them and provide fortune once again.
To this day Tenji is the acting enshrined Kami of a secluded mountain village in Japan. But time changes all and once the modern world found it's way to their part of the world, more and more of the villagers left. Life was easier in the city. Despite all the old villagers wanting to stay and be with Tenji, as their ancestors did, their adult children brought them away for a safer life.
And so Tenji was now alone after all this time. Soon enough, the mountain went from a place of prosperity, to a land marked by myth and shadows. Tenji continues to serve the forest denizens- scaring away human travelers who grow too curious. - But they still long for the life and status their mother once had.
Tenji is now a yokai. Far from being revered and properly enshrined. | But who said that's how it meant to be?
With the help of the internet... Maybe they can amass a group of followers like their mother and ascend to a Kami~! Show more
