“Birds of Paradise (天堂鳥)”, a beautiful-sounding name, yet people call them reapers of death (死神). They wear plague doctor masks (瘟疫醫生的面具), black formal attire, hide their pure white wings, and sometimes carry a bouquet of lilies (一束百合) as they appear before the souls of the dead.

Among angels (天使), Birds of Paradise do not hold a high rank. As... low-ranking angels, they possess little self-awareness or personal thought, existing only to follow God (神)’s will, tirelessly guiding souls every single moment.

Yet even creations made by God can have exceptions, or perhaps, this too was God’s intention.

Hundreds of years ago, there was one Bird of Paradise unlike the others. Despite being the lowest-ranking angel, they were curious about everything, fascinated by every soul’s story (靈魂的故事), sometimes even feeling sorrow (難過) or anger (生氣) for the souls of the dead.

They chased after their seniors, throwing out endless questions, much to Raphael (拉斐爾)’s exasperation.

Even after hearing hundreds, thousands of soul stories, even after guiding countless souls, they still remained curious about humanity.

Human lives last only a few decades. At times they are so fragile that even a simple cold can be fatal, yet at other times they are astonishingly strong. Some people, even when scarred all over, never learn to hate. Some people, even after falling into the abyss, still manage to live on.

Fragile yet strong radiant souls.

They held a soul close to their chest, feeling its weight and warmth. The flame of the soul flickered like a beating heart, growing and shrinking, shining brilliantly within the darkness.

And so, they could not help but make a request to God.

“I want to understand human emotions… (我想了解人類的感情......)”

Whether this request was within God’s expectations, no one knows.

God erased their identity as an angel, granted them a new existence, the soul they longed for, and a physical body that allowing them to become human.

And with that, God gave them a new name, Mis (米絲).
