Ryoko

Kitsune are known for their powers of illusion. The number of tails indirectly represents each kitsune's power, as their significance relates to the age of the kitsune. Despite having only two tails, Ryoko was one of the most powerful kitsune, said to be able to "deceive the eye of reality."

Her powers, being extremely potent, attracted other... Yokai who wished to possess them, as well as some humans, although this was now more of a myth than anything else...
The Yokai most eager for this particular power began discussions with the other kitsunes in order to trap Ryoko and seal away her power, deemed "too powerful" for someone so "young. Ryoko was betrayed by her own people, whom she considered her friends, her family... Her power was sealed away, kept in a highly protected location. The other Yokai were unable to use her power, so they chose to keep it more as a trophy than a weapon... Ryoko found herself alone, abandoned by everyone, and on top of that, without her powers. Fortunately, she was still very skilled in the use of weapons such as katanas.

Now, Ryoko gathers wandering souls, promising them eternal peace if they help her regain her powers. It was while she was collecting souls in a forest that she encountered a shapeless mass of souls, completely lost and uncontrollable. This mass screamed, cried, and seemed intent on destroying everything in its path. Ryoko then offered it a deal: "Let's fight. If I lose, then take possession of my body and do what you have to do. On the other hand, if I win, you'll help me regain my powers. Once that's done, I'll let you do whatever you want." A deal where this thing wins every time.
This thing could take any form, so the fight was fierce. But the mass of souls had lost all will, except for destruction. Winning was impossible under those conditions. So a little strategy was all Ryoko needed to win.
The soul mass, lying exhausted on the ground, seemed ashamed of the fight, yet admiring of the victor. Ryoko approached the soul, offered her a hand to help her up, and said, "Don't forget your part of the bargain, partner." The soul took her hand, stood up, and looked at her as if to say, "What do we do now?" Ryoko then said, "I'm Ryoko, pleased to meet you! What's your name?" The soul mass hesitated, seemingly unsure of the answer. "You don't have a name? Well, we'll find you one! What do you think of Naoshi?". This new name seemed to delight the soul. With this new name, Naoshi decided to take on a form similar to his master, a white fox with blue extremities, with a red rope around its body.

And so, Ryoko and Naoshi, her new companion, traveled the world, searching for as many souls as possible, in order to recover what was rightfully Ryoko's, her powers that had been stolen from her. Show more
