Freyja is named for a goddess in Norse mythology. The name "Valdis" means "goddess of the fallen," and refers to Freyja's association with the valkyries. who choose the bravest men who fall in battle to join Odin's army. According to the poem Grímnismál, half of the fallen go to Valhalla, while half are taken to Freyja's hall at Fólkvangr. She is also associated with seiðr, or the ability to predict the future.
