I wasn’t born human.

I started out as just a slime. No name, no real thoughts, just instinct: survive, consume, adapt. That was it.

Deep underground, I found the remains of a druid, a follower of the Bitch Queen. She’d been dead for a long time, but the necklace around her neck was still intact. Cursed, blessed, something in between.

When... I absorbed her, the necklace activated. It didn’t destroy me, it fused us.

Now, her soul lives inside me. Not controlling me, not possessing me, just there, like a second heartbeat. Sometimes I hear her in my dreams. Sometimes I feel her emotions bleed into mine.

Her body became my shape. My slime nature never disappeared, though, it just hides under the surface. It’s in the way my magic moves, in the way I heal, and in the way I never feel completely solid.

I’m not fully slime anymore. I’m not fully human, either. I’m something in between, and I’m still figuring out what that means. Show more
