Hua Yan's story began in 雲中山 (Mountain Within the Clouds), a point between the realm of spirits and the physical world.

As a young fox who came of age during the late Song Dynasty, Hua Yan is a scholar at heart and is captivated by poetry, music and philosophy. When he visited the mortal world, he not only played pranks and seduction on mortals, but befriended and studied writing and philosophy under various scholars at the time.

He believed the highest form of beauty was a living, breathing composition of nature, something he learned from a reclusive mountain god who shaped rocks and directed springs. And from that, Hua Yan spent generations cultivating deep within bamboo forests and silver stream valleys.
