Mina Niya

Niya's YouTube channel was originally created on 22 January 2009. On 15 June 2016, she created her Twitch account. She originally went by the username tomatomagica.

She began workshopping her original persona in February 2021, making a 3D model in VRoid, which she posted on 25 February. She went by the name Kisa Niya, and felt that this identity was a way to protect herself.

Her earliest known YouTube livestream with the character took place on 29 May 2021.

• Her fans are known as Doremini. It is a play on the musical scale "Do-re-mi" and "mini" (to imply a small being).
• Her earliest YouTube content in 2018 was from magical girl anime Ojamajo Doremi, which may also be an influence.
• They were originally known as Tomadachi, which is from "tomato" (from her original name tomatomagica) and "tomodachi" (Japanese for "friends").

• She enjoys fishing, sleep, making noises, and cooking without recipe.
• Her favorite music are anime songs, The Beatles, Gorillaz, bossa nova, jazz, classical, and musicals.
• Her favorite VTubers are Houshou Marine, Hoshimachi Suisei, Nekomata Okayu, and GEEGA.

• NIYA stands for Naps, Ignore work, Yummy tomatoes, and Always pet cats.
• According to her 2026 re-debut, "Niya" comes from her real name. It's short for Agniya ( Агниыа ), which comes from the greek root Agni, meaning "fire." It's a name of Russian or Greek origin, and related to the name Agnes.
• Mina refers to "mine," as in "landmine," referring to the jirai-kei Japanese street fashion style.
• She was originally known as Kisa ( Киса ), which is the Russian for "kitty." The name was chosen in part because it sounds Japanese, but is not Japanese, as she did not wish to use a solely Japanese name without being part of that culture.
• Her original signature emoji was 😽🍅. Her new signature emoji are 🎹❤️‍🩹.
• She uses she/her pronouns. She does not like being referred to by they/them pronouns.
• The square shape of her mouth is inspired by the character Sue from Genshiken.
• The letter 'a' appearing twice in her logo is a whole note symbol. The pair also represents a pair of glasses.
