Natsu Kashii

Natsu is a friendly and relaxed VTuber. Most of her streams open with personal greetings to everyone in her chat room. She’s a bit of a yapper and regularly shares anecdotes ranging from technical issues, anime she’s watched, humorous moments from her youth, to chatting about the main event of the stream. She is very enthusiastic when it comes to retro games, anime, and OVAs. She often has zatsudan, or “just chatting” streams (called Natsu Zatsu), where she reminisces and connects with her retro-loving community.

Natsu is very tenacious and determined, not giving up easily when faced with the challenges of retro gaming, where the difficulty spikes to increase replayability. An example of this is when playing Battletoads on the NES, she found herself retrying the infamous Turbo Tunnel level repeatedly and, with the help of save-states, slowly but surely beat the level. She’s convinced that she beat the level her first try and the fanbase plays along with her delusions.

When faced with in-game challenges, Natsu will yell, scream, and sob at any repetitive deaths, eventually leading to her accidentally making less progress than a previous attempt. Once she’s in a tilted state, her panic will be evident in how the player-character jitters and moves on-screen in attempts of over-correcting, leading to falling off cliffs and forgetting to jump when needed. When these moments happen, she will instinctually yell out “AAA” or “FAK,” which have led to Natsu receiving the nickname of Panic Princess. She is forgetful and gets lost easily, frequently relying on her chat to remind her where she’s been and where she’s going.

She has low stream stamina with most streams lasting two and a half to three hours. As Natsu has continued streaming, however, her stamina has grown to streaming for three and a half to four hours, particularly in streams like Pokémon Nuzlockes, or collab streams with other creators. When appearing as a guest on another creator’s channel, she does her best to match the host’s stamina, but usually pays for it later with longer sleeping times or being exhausted the following day.

Natsu has made it a tradition to end streams as calming and loving as they began. Even after playing games that defy the chill vibe she strives for, she always brings it back by the end of the stream, playing relaxing tropical music and reflecting on the fun of that day’s stream. She also teases what’s in store for the stream to follow, always making sure her Lil Crabs are as excited as she is to continue her permanent vacation on the deserted island.

Natsu is a woman with waist-length wavy brown hair that is decorated with her signature orange-red hibiscus flower on the left side, above her ear. She wears white-framed, purple-lensed glasses atop her head, above her bangs, which are parted on the left side. Her eyes have an orange-red to gold gradient and are reminiscent of the colors of a “Bahama Mama” cocktail drink.

She has a full, balanced body and wears a red-orange bikini top with a white hibiscus pattern on it. Over this, she wears an unbuttoned white shirt tied in a knot beneath her bust. She wears rolled up jean shorts stopping at her upper thigh and orange-red slip-on sandals on her feet.

Natsu is adorned with various accessories including purple teardrop-shaped earrings, a hibiscus charm necklace, a gold belly chain, and two bracelets on her left wrist - one gold bangle and the other made of pearls. Both her fingernails and toenails are painted with purple nail polish, with the exception of her fourth digit on each, which is painted orange-red.

Natsu’s story is that of an overworked office employee who fantasized about escaping her grueling day-to-day grind and 50 to 60-hour work weeks. She dreamed of returning to a life free from stress; a time when she could relax without feeling guilty about doing so. During a walk home, she spotted a poster advertising a vacation getaway to the Bahamas with the words “It’s time!” written across the top. Interpreting it as a sign to finally take a break from her work, Natsu quickly began preparations to go on her very first vacation.

Never having been on vacation before, Natsu packed several large trunks, bags, and suitcases with all of her anime VHS tapes, retro video games, consoles, and even a CRT television. When she arrived at the pier to board the cruise ship, she realized that she missed the boat due to her over-packing. Sensing her desperation, a stranger with a private speed boat offered to take Natsu to the Bahamas for a fee. Natsu was determined to go on vacation and accepted the stranger’s pricey offer. After dropping Natsu off on an island that she believed was part of the Bahamas and collecting his payment, the stranger quickly sped off, leaving Natsu alone.

Natsu soon realized that the island was deserted and came to the conclusion that she was likely scammed. Despite her circumstances, she was determined to be on vacation and quickly made herself at home on the island. Though not knowing exactly where she is, Natsu believes she is in the Bermuda Triangle, as location services do not work and strange occurrences take place, such as the island actually having internet access and there being outlets in the palm tree trunks. With the island seemingly providing for her and a horde of strange looking coconut crabs gathering around her, Natsu is content to spend her days playing retro games and watching retro anime for as long as she can.

Her mascot is a coconut crab designed by Inu Strider and her fans are called Lil' Crabs (inspired by the character Lil' Cactus from the Mana game series). Her fanbase is often represented on screen and in fanart as regular orange-red colored crabs.

She has a deep connection to her Lil' Crabs, almost to a fault, as the chaotic crustaceans have a habit of teasing Natsu during her streams. This teasing has led Natsu to casually threaten to eat the crabs for dinner, alluding to “The Butter Jacuzzi,”.

• “Natsukashii” is a Japanese term meaning “happy nostalgia” or fondness for the past. “Natsu” is the Japanese word for “summer.”
• Natsu has an older brother that she played video games with when she was younger who would often help her get through difficult challenges. The community refers to him as “Natsu-bro” and sometimes requests that Natsu have him help her when she is struggling.
• Natsu is part Italian, prompting the community to use the “Pinched Fingers” emoji to simulate an Italian hand gesture that means “Che vuoi?” in Italian, which translates to “What do you want?” The gesture is also used to express confusion, disbelief, or act as a “chef’s kiss” when something is deemed perfect.
• Natsu occasionally suffers from Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). The Lil Crabs affectionately refer to the disorder as “Big Pee-Pee V,” which makes Natsu laugh when she is undergoing treatment for the dizzy spells.
