Shoal is both silly and mischievous. While he teases/pranks his friends, he welcomes his community with sincere warmth. Depending on the day, he can be either energetically upbeat or more cozy and mellow. In either case, chat claims he brightens their day (which Shoal finds great joy in).
Shoal is also a big scaredy cat (well, scaredy otter). Despite this, he plays horror games frequently.

Classic Shoal appears as having orangish hair and indigo otter ears with white floof inside. His eyebrows match the indigo of his ears, while his eyes are a golden yellow.
He wears a white fishnet shirt underneath of a crop top that has a gradient of orange to yellow. He also wears teal swim trunks with an indigo speedo underneath. On his feet, he wears sandals that have a long crisscrossing ribbon. His outfit has additional themes of pearls and shells—making up both the patterns on his trunks as well as the materials for his earring, necklace, and bracelets.
He can occasionally be seen wearing a cropped indigo hoodie, but usually only upon chat’s request.

Current Shoal continues having orangish hair and indigo otter ears with white floof inside. However, the ear floof is now contained within the ear, instead of billowing out. His eyebrows now match the orange of his hair instead of the indigo of his ears. His eyes are more of a sunset now, still having yellow, but now including a pinkish orange near the top of his irises.
He now wears a wetsuit of white and various blues. The wetsuit also features a holographic and transparent chestguard featuring a sticker-like print of waves. He has a cropped jacket made of fishnet as a callback to his 1.0 cropped t-shirt. He has a floaty on his right arm, a belt with pink purse around his waist, and a large blue sash with animated waves across the fabric. His legs are covered by wetsuit leggings; one matching the indigo of his wetsuit, and the other matching the holographic fabric of his chestguard. The holographic side is covered in various sea-themed stickers. His outfit continues to have presence of pearls and shells—making up inspiration for stickers on his leg as well as the materials for his earring, necklace, and bracelets.
He also sometimes wears a matching visor with shell decorations and further holographic components.
