Wren Akane

Akane Wren is a red-headed individual sporting a sharp hat with an embedded feather of unknown origin, harkening to a -like design. They have a scar on their right cheek and have friendly (occasionally intimidating) red eyes. For attire, they sport a white shirt and black tie, bound by a harness and covered by a cropped black suit jacket featuring white trim and a feather ornament similar to their hat. The look is completed by pleated black pants and a red glove covering their right hand, which is decorated with glowing blue lines. Wren can sometimes be seen carrying and smoking a stick of ignitable Chocky (legally distinct from ).

In August 2024, Simon Fraser University's School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT) announced an initiative in partnership with Sawmill Studios to create its first-ever "Virtual Ambassadors" in order to represent and engage with the SFU community. These Virtual Ambassadors would be functionally identical to VTubers. Auditions for the talent opened that September. The first duo of Vtubers, Mo and Faye Ayato, debuted on March 1st, 2025, livestreaming both separately and together on the SIAT YouTube channel, which would later be rechristened Cappuverse SFU.

On 27 February 2026, Wren debuted, staring in Faye and Mo Ayato's subsequent 1-year anniversary stream. During their debut, Wren vowed that they didn't have a bald spot. A mere approximate 4 hours later, Faye Ayato gave viewers the honour of toggling Wren's hair layer off for everyone to see their uncovered head. In celebration of the debut, a line of merchandise was created, which included stickers and a T-shirt. The merchandise was sold at SIAT's convention appearances as well as online, via Etsy.

During his 1-year anniversary stream, Faye Ayato assembled Wren and AP0110 to interview as a new Virtual Ambassador to seemingly replace Mo Ayato, whom at that point had been taking a hiatus for 5 months. Her official location was Gay Baby Jail, a department of the Bureau. Organising a game show for the two of them as part of their interviews called Who Wants To Be Employed?, Faye promised a role at SIAT as the reward. However, before the start of the game, Mo appeared out of nowhere, screaming and demanding her old job back. The three players would unite and share answers, with Wren tying with Mo as the winner of the game with 15 points briefly before Mo was retroactively given 3567 points for a total of 3582. All three participants were awarded with employment at SIAT nonetheless, thus completing Wren's official officiation as a SIAT Vtuber.

It was later revealed that Wren pulled some strings at the Bureau to absolve Mo of all her charges.

On 29 March, Wren announced that they would be supporting a debut of some sort on 1 April. The nature of the debut was wrapped in mystery, being described only as "a bit sus but yolo." Come 1 April, a trailer would drop on YouTube, revealing the name of this new VTuber to be Suspicious Cappu. The nature of the trailer was memetic and bizarre by any conventional standard, incorporating an above average number of memes and live action footage of a real racoon. The "debut" stream would go live that evening. Suspicious Cappu would then (Full name: Suspicious Capputon III) debut, using the default Cappu model. Unable to speak except via a meme soundboard, Wren existed to translated for them. Suspicious Cappu would go on to explain, using only memes, that they were born in Toronto, went to Vancouver, and suffered a great ordeal. Suspicious Cappu would explain that they were not born on Avenaria, but rather, was turned into a Cappu by Mo, against their will. Suspicious Cappu would go on to explain (using only the soundboard) that they ate a soundboard, losing their ability to speak, hence Wren's translation. The stream was later revealed to be an April fools joke.

In the magical world of Avenaria, ruled by a brutal class system that placed magic-users at the top, a highly-influential individual named Rodriguez appeared from Earth one day and introduced hyper-advanced technologies that revolutionised the standard of living. To regulate the influx of new magical technologies, an organisation known as the Bureau was established. Behind the scenes, however, the Bureau used Rodriguez's technology for their own malicious gain, opening portals as "windows" into Earth and stealing things from this dimension that would be useful in theirs.

Wren Akane, a born magic-user, defected from the authoritarian Bureau, where their previous role was as an Agent and "golem handler". An agent since childhood, Wren was tasked with the securing of magical artifacts that had leaked over from Earth. Wren would also secure Earth media that had jumped between worlds, and would enjoy consuming them between shifts. One day in the forest, Wren met a golem named AP0110, who introduced them to the wrongdoings of the Bureau. While resistant to AP0110's perspective at first, when Wren saw that the Bureau had appropriated AP0110's design after detaining and experimenting on him, they defected from the Bureau. "Liberating" an inter-dimensional communicator from their headquarter's vault, they to opened a portal to, Earth for themselves and AP0110. Despite the property damage this caused, the Bureau still gave them a (small) severance package post-defection, which was quickly eaten up by the city of 's exorbitantly high cost of living.

Upon coming to Earth, Wren and AP0110 reported to a Canadian immigration checkpoint in order to legally complete their immigration. After explaining their situation to the immigration officers, they were able to legally classify AP0110 as an "Autonomous Robot". They then sought out their fellow Avenarians, the previous generation of SIAT Vtubers: Mo and Faye Ayato. During this time, Wren became enamoured by all the foods of Earth, specifically tea, and began a habit of eating all day, despite being horrified by the high prices of goods and services. Completely broke, starving, and desperately seeking employment, they enrolled at to gain the skills to become a filmmaker and make the world's coolest film. However, to pay the bills during this, Wren continued their work as an investigator, branding themselves SIAT'S #1 Investigator.

As an investigator, Wren was not above investigating their colleagues, attempting multiple times to arrest their fellow Vtubers for various crimes. No arrests were ever made due to a variety of technicalities.

The following section recounts more general details of Wren's fictional world of Avenaria, from which they originated before coming to Earth in their backstory, in no particular order.

* According to their Generation 1 counterpart, Faye Ayato, magic portals function by envisioning the point of origin and the target location as clearly as possible before conjuring the portal. Because of this, Wren's immigration to Vancouver was hampered somewhat by the fact that they had never been to Earth, and only had human media to envision what the place looked like. They and AP0110 would use Faye (himself the leading expert on portals)'s interdimensonal communicator, which was used to relay signals through the portals, to fix their location and make smooth the process of immigration.
* The average wizard from Avenaria would lose a fight to the average, due to lack of magical education producing subpar and sloppy casters who treat their wands like guns.

* The origin of magic in Avenaria was . The people of Avenaria were descended from birds, and through their song, it was said that magic entered the land. All magic is simply a translation from birdsong. Methods of casting include runes or phonetics.
* While Cappus are incapable of using magic, there are non-human species in Avenaria capable of understanding and replicating the magical properties of birdsong.
* Rodriguez was an ancient mage by Faye Ayato's standards, who revolutionised what magic looked like in Avenaria, allowing it to industrialise. Wren became well acquainted with their works. AP0110, incidentally, is much older.
* The Bureau withheld much of the technology developed by Rodriguez in much richer cities. The feudal, medieval style city shown in Faye's lore trailer and the modern city shown in Generation 2's lore trailer actually exist at the same time, to illustrate the extreme gap of both knowledge and wealth that The Bureau created.
* The interdimensional communicator created by Faye to relay radio waves through his portals had to be scrapped together from spare parts due to the Bureau not sanctioning its creation. The communicator was seized by the Bureau anyway, until it was freed by Wren Akane and AP0110.

Wren is a living dichotomy: When they're not monologuing and brooding in the mirror, they can be bubbly and cheerful, eager to please; as evidenced by seeking employment anywhere for any pay post-defection from the Bureau. Talkative and affable, Wren talks at length about enjoying eating sweets (namely Chocky) and drinking tea.

Wren is conscious of the harm that they caused as an agent, and "wants to give back to people" through their new life at SIAT.

One thing that boils Wren's blood are those who take away other's right to self determination. Having come from the oppressive Bureau, Wren prizes autonomy and freedom above all, and loathe those who impede anyone's freedom in any way whatsoever.

Wren possesses a great ability for introspection, as evidenced by their countless brooding monologues. Wren also had enough humility to wake up to Avenaria's oppressive regime, despite being a Magic-User (as evidenced by their materialisation of sunglasses out of thin air) who was the beneficiary of the regime's unjust policies. Despite costing them their job and income, they prized their morals over everything, and left the organisation to preserve their autonomy. Fiercely protective of their friends, they even did a punnishment stream to atone for theirs and AP0110's crimes in Avenaria.

Finally, according to Wren, anyone who buys a sandwich instead of making it themselves contribute to the cycle of oppression and the removal of self determination.)
