Beaumont spent the first years of his adult life travelling the world as a concierge in luxury hotels. New Orleans to New York, Toronto to Tokyo. If you've ever spent time in a five-star hotel, chances are Beaumont was the dapper young dogboy happy to reply, “Oh, right away, sir,” and make your wishes a reality.

But years spent in service to... the rich and powerful weigh on a person. One can only devote so much of one's life to making the increasingly extravagant whims of the wealthy come true. “Oh, you'd like a table tonight at the most popular restaurant in town? The one with the world-renowned chef and the three-year wait list? I'll make it happen.”

And he did. Favors were called in, strings were pulled, and impossible reservations somehow appeared. Lavish gifts came his way in return, of course. But eventually Beau began to wonder what all that luxury was costing him.

One such gift was the free use of a condo in San Sebastian Beach, courtesy of a favorite client. Tech magnate, venture capitalist, something like that. Beau never particularly cared.

On a weekend trip to San Sebastian, Beau found himself falling in love with the cozy beachside town. Once a year-round destination that could rival Malibu, San Sebastian had grown quieter over the years. The locals liked it that way. Come summer, though, it still became a playground for those in the know and the well-heeled.

It reminded Beau of his high-school days as a lifeguard, and of how happy he had been then. So, he did something nobody from his old life expected: he applied for a job with the local beach patrol and gave up his jet-setting career.

Today, Beau serves as Head Lifeguard of the San Sebastian Beach Patrol. Rather than prop himself up behind a desk, he still daubs his nose with zinc, takes his place in the stand, and keeps watch over his Beachgoers, ready to leap into action whenever they need him. Show more
