Griffin Enfield

Hidden in a magical forest only accessible through fairy circles during twilight, is The Great Ashewlo Tree of Rebirth. This tree is the final resting place for all things imbued with the knowledge of the great beyond as well as the source of magical new beginnings. The caretaker of this magical forest was a humble yet quirky old man, Leshy, who cared for all the woodland things. Unicorns were polished on demand, Dryads were hydrated and pruned, Satyrs were burped regularly, and Sylphs were climatized should any come down with a fever or two. Non-mythical creatures also found a home in this forest and co-existed peacefully without threat or harm. Occasionally a lost wanderer would stumble into a fairy circle at twilight and find themselves lost in the forest among its residents. They would fall victim to usually harmless pranks such as their clothes being stolen by pixies or the foxes eating all their food. No mischief was ever too complex that Leshy couldn’t rectify and he typically prevented anything from getting too out of hand. Leshy had watched over the forest for as long as the Ashewlo tree fed its life giving sap into his veins. He had noticed the foxes which settled in a nearby den to the sacred tree nipping at his heels recently as playful jest. This was something they would do to wisps of departed souls which would make their long journey home to the tree and nestle back into its roots before its rebirth into the new world. It had been many years of caring for this tree, this forest, and all the creatures which inhabit it. Leshy knew his time was soon. But Leshy decided it would be fun to have a midlife crisis by venturing out of the mythical forest and have a bit of fun free of his life long responsibilities. Retirement was a concept that was commonly practiced for non-magical folk, so why couldn’t Leshy partake in a beach or two? The kooky old man decided he wanted to see other sights, maybe even live out his days as a travel influencer on Mystagram! Of course he couldn’t leave his duties completely unattended to and decided he would borrow a bit of life-giving sap from the Ashewlo tree to create a new guardian. For this task, he collected the claw of a lion and the feathers of an eagle in order to conjure a Griffin, known for their divine power and loyalty for protection. Leshy laid out all the ingredients to be mixed into a cauldron filled with the spring water of the fairies and had only stepped away for a moment to pack his belongings for his own journey. Little did he know that a little fox had followed him to his hut aiming to cause a tiny bit of mischief of her own, however, grace was lacking for the little fox and her footing was not stable when slipping through the window causing her to crash into the tray of ingredients. The fox fell into the magical cauldron along with the eagle feathers and the life-giving sap while the lion claw narrowly missed the pot entirely. The ruckus alerted Leshy to look on as the little fox underwent an unintentional rebirth being infused with magic and becoming a humanoid Enfield. Much to Leshy’s dismay his “Griffin” was born. Merely shrugging his shoulders at the incident, Leshy accepted the circumstances and decided it was good enough. Naming her Griffin as a funny joke to himself, he entrusted her with the protection of the forest and all that comes with it. His final words were to remind her that someday he would return to this place as his final resting place and that he hopes when that time happens, that Griffin will be ready for all the responsibilities that would entail. Griffin, still trying to get acquainted with her current materialization, looked on as Leshy left the magical realm. She pondered his words for a moment. And she pondered. Her stomach growled. Then, as though struck with an epiphany and not by motivation of hunger, realized that Leshy was trying to inform her that he needed her to build a Bed & Breakfast because he would be really tired from his journey when he returned and required a really good breakfast after a really good rest. Filled with passionate determination, Griffin went to work building the Bread & Breakfast!

While trying to learn her menu items for the Bread & Breakfast, Griffin was still trying to make sense of the capabilities of the magical forest she grew up in. While trying to learn how to make a fancy espresso recipe, Griffin thought the life-giving sap from the Ashewlo Tree of Rebirth would make for a nice sweetener, however, what resulted was the birth of Brunch, a coffee creamer fox creature. She has since learned the importance of the tree and understands that its powers should not be used lightly.
