H2oSakana first appeared under this nickname during the early days of the VTuber scene.

Trivia

His name comes from the saying the Japanese saying "水を得た魚" aka "like a fish in the water".
His company has been labeled the "sad girls company" because people believe many of the talents struggle with mental health issues. This term was used for the first time on 16 January 2022 during a chat between Sakana and Umiushi Urara, in a slip up of Urara. Therefore it stuck within the fanbase.
Despite owning and operating a coffee company, Sakana confirmed in Lia's chat during a coffee making stream that he doesn't drink coffee.
His oshi is Houshou Marine from hololive, which led him to give Chisaka Airi (one of his talents) a model with a similar design. According to her, every generation has a "failed Marine clone". At the same time, Sakana has told some talents to stop acting like Marine as that would ruin her image for him.
He regularly supports his talents by sending super chats in Canadian dollars (CAD).
In an interview with Airi, he revealed that his goal is to "fix everyone up and turn them into idols".
He is married and has children.

Tenma, one of his talents, mentioned in a tweet that his ban from Azur Lane played a role in his decision to start Phase Connect.
Despite being banned from Azur Lane, Sakana remains a fan of the game. In a live stream in early 2025, Uruka revealed that he had purchased three human-sized Azur Lane figures while in Japan.
These days, he enjoys playing League of Legends, with some fans joking that he recruits both talents and staff from the game’s lobbies.
Started Phase Connect with all black hair but has been growing a patch of white hair ever since.
Due to his liking of VTuber models with big breasts, how some talents needed to ask for breast reduction to their models and how a bunch of new outfits seemingly have increased breast sizes, many joke that Sakana has a boob ray.

Some of jokes have come out of his Discord messages like his fort he made out merch boxes at the warehouse or him being on "primal hunger shit" and preceding to eat noodles with 7 eggs in them.

2018

He was banned from the gacha game Azur Lane for cheating in the game. The official game account even posted his name publicly on a "wall of shame" on Twitter.

2019

When hololive announced its collaboration with Azur Lane, H2oSakana became interested in the VTuber scene. This crossover drew his attention not only to the growing popularity of VTubers but also to the potential of the industry itself. Inspired by this, he eventually began planning to establish his own VTuber agency.

2020

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, H2oSakana and his friend began planning the foundation of their company. With much of the world shifting online and digital entertainment rapidly growing, they saw an opportunity to create a VTuber agency that could connect talents with a global audience.

2021

Phase Connect officially opened auditions for its first generation of talents on January 31. After nearly three months of screening and preparation, the agency announced the lineup of its 1st Generation members on April 28. The debut streams for this generation took place between June 19 and June 20, marking the official start of Phase Connect’s activities in the VTuber industry.

2023

His agency, Phase Connect, won the Rising VTuber Organization category at the VTuber Awards.
