Originally from the South Sea Isles, and adventuring as a Warrior of Light across Eorzea, Yam was zapped into a void portal by mistake on the way to the First.

This granted her the ability to jump across universes to experience different worlds, meeting new friends along the way.

She continues to wear her iconic outfit (blue maid dress, and a bunny ear crown) from her home, in each of the worlds she visits. As she has started ghost hunting as a more serious side hobby, she thought it would make sense to have a special outfit for that as well.
