- She previously went by the name Hanazawa Rica, after one of her favorite voice actresses, . She changed the surname for her VTuber debut to Hanamiya, because she likes cats, and "miya" sounded like "mya," a cat meow.
- Her first name Rica, was originally spelled with the kanji (利香) prior to her VTuber debut. On debut, she announced her full name to be Hanamiya Rica (花宮莉歌), which uses different kanji for Rica (莉歌).
- The second kanji in the new spelling of Rica uses the kanji for "song" (歌).
- Rica is normally written in English as "Rika" due to romanization rules, but she chooses to spell it with a C. One of her favorite voice actresses and singers, Matsumoto Rica of JAM Project, also spells her name this way.
