Personality
Narukami is a well mannered young man, despite sometimes sounding arrogant and sarcastic. He describes his main interest as "to remake the world of VTubers, which is lawless, unscrupulous, corrupt and wicked."
However, he is lax in his research, and lacking in knowledge in common sense about information, laws, and internet literacy. As a result he often spreads inaccurate information, refusing to apologise or retract his claims when corrected. In the English-speaking internet he is nicknamed "Japanese " for this reason. He is arrogant, outspoken, and quick to make enemies.
Appearance
He appears as a late teenager with a slightly above average height. He has a short disheveled purple hair with a bit of a mullet, matching his hazel eyes. On his exposé videos he wears a modified version of a high school gakuran uniform with a long jacket and a pair of black and white leather patent brogues. In his informal streams, he wears a white hoodie with black stripes and a pair of headphones.
Background
Narukami Sabaki's Twitter account was created on September 2018. He debuted on YouTube on 15 October of the same year, producing an introduction video.
Likes and dislikes
- His favorite foods are ketchup omurice, umeboshi, and lemons.
- His disliked foods are liver, chocolate (except white chocolate), and anything with a squishy texture.
- He hates bugs, especially cicadas and grasshoppers. He hates cockroaches (but not as much as he hates cicadas). He is okay with spiders.
Miscellaneous
- His shoe size is 27.5 cm.
- He uses Amino Mason shampoo.
- The costumes on his main channel are based on priest's robes.
- His Twitcasting channle he holds regular streams on Wednesday at 22:00.
- He often develops mouth ulcers, and seems to use this as an excuse to postpone or cancel a video.
- His video thumbnails were annotated with a red border for his original breaking stories, and a blue border for commentary on stories already reported elsewhere. The red border stories tended to be less factually accurate.
- He has a female version called Hakari-chan who once appeared in a thumbnail.

More Info
2018
His first investigative video series was about the debacle of the "100 VTubers Project" (VTuber100体プロジェクト bichuubaa hyaku tai purojekuto) by Zig. He would go on to produce numerous videos on the industry.
2019
On 21 April, he created a new YouTube sub-channel, 鳴神裁のもしもこの世界が平和だったら. This would be used mainly for games, music, and zatsudan streams.
On 18 August, Sabaki was announced as commentator on Day 2 in the first League of Legends Virtual Championships, a VTuber-only tournament taking place from 23 to 25 August. On 24 August, NIJISANJI withdrew from the tournament, in response to a video of Sabaki's on 21 August which criticized a staff member.
On 22 December, he opened voting on a survey of most disliked VTubers. The survey received 30,338 votes, of which 26,000 were dismissed as spam and others as duplicates, leaving 1,715 entries accepted. Sabaki himself won the poll, with 380 votes; the second-place reached only 99 votes.
2020
On 12 January he posted tubeRival, a rap collaboration with Kerin. While the song itself was not poorly received, Kerin was criticized for working with such a controversial partner, amid fears that Sabaki could use the relationship to obtain private information about VTubers. In an apology video, Kerin severed his relationship with Sabaki. Both blocked each other on Twitter.
On 15 and 16 May, Cover Corporation, who operate the agency hololive, issued a statement warning that they would take legal action against defamatory comments made on social media against their talents. On 23 May, Sabaki identified himself as the person in question.
2021
On 29 January, he received his third copyright strike on his original YouTube channel, Narukami Sabaki Official. The three strike were made by Brave Group (creators of Game Club Project), someone called La Famila, and Virtual Buddha.
On 7 February, he created a new YouTube channel, Narukami Sabaki Official 2nd. The next day, his original channel was deleted. While it is against hte terms of service for a banned user to create a new channel, it was unclear whether creating a new channel in advance is permitted.
On 10 February, his sub-channel too was banned.
On 25 February, he announced that he was pursuing legal action to get his channels back. His main channel was re-instated by 7 April, and by 8 April the sub-channel was also back.
On 9 April, he returned to his normal activities with the announcement of his "resurrection" in a video, in which he detailed that the copyright strikes from Brave Group and La Famila had been removed.
On 29 September, several videos mentioning hololive were subject to takedowns following copyright claim by Cover Corporation, regarding the use of images. His original channel was once again locked, and he announced that he would continue streaming on Twitch. He also pledged to retaliate against the company, including by releasing names and secrets.
On 3 October, Narukami reported that his original YouTube account would be banned as of the following week. He announced plans to move to Twitcasting.tv. Both his main and second channels were closed.
2022
On 21 April, his TikTok account was temporarily banned.
During May, he also suffered from repeated one-week TikTok bans, from 5 to 12 May, and from 15 to 22 May. His last post to the site was made on 24 May during a gap between bans.
Controversies
Narukami Sabaki holds the unenviable accolade of possibly the most controversial VTuber. Among his actions include:
- Sabaki falsely claimed that independent VTuber Peanuts-kun was secretly corporate-sponsored. Peanuts-kun and his associate Ponpoko were subsequently harassed by viewers and forced to deny the claim. Sabaki issued a non-apology which was later privated, and while he promised to better scrutinize his information in future, he continued to refer to Peanuts-kun by such names as "crappy bean" or "bean trash." * Although Sabaki promised to better scrutinize his sources following the Peanuts-kun incident, he would continue to produce inaccurate reporting based on incorrect or incomplete information, or even based on pure speculation. His content became characterized by an eagerness to report without scrutinizing information, often causing trouble for the people involved. * In February 2022 he spread a rumor that hololive member Uruha Rushia's change of Live2D model's hair color was unauthorized by management. This was denied by both hololive and the model artist. Sabaki contacted Rushia for information, which she provided despite specific policy to ignore Narukami Sabaki. * He accused hololive of "modern slavery" by exploiting volunteer translators, citing an image of Facebook post made by founder Yagoo. However, the image he cited blacked out the time and date field, and Sabaki declined to provide the URL or date, suggesting that it was an unrelated post taken out of context. * On 1 August 2023, he announced that he was subject to a criminal investigation regarding his content about VTuber Yuzuki Roa. However, he was ultimately not indicted. He often claims that he gets his facts from reputable sources, despite the fact that they actually come from hearsay on social media and forums like 2chan.
