Personality

Ina is a gentle, peaceful, soft-spoken and down-to-earth girl with an easy-going temperament, so much so that she reverses stress and insanity in her viewers rather than encouraging it, despite her Lovecraftian role as "the maiden who speaks for the old gods." She is very loving and aware towards her fellow members, capable of talking extensively about each one and their respective quirks.

She is considerate and kind; Takanashi Kiara relates that when she is down, Ina is always the first to message her. In complete contrast to the salty gremlin Amelia, Ina has near-infinite patience and is widely considered the most well-behaved member of her generation.

Ina is very engaged in popular culture with massively diverse tastes, enjoying a large variety of genres in an equally large pool of mediums, whether it be mecha anime, pop rock, fps, only to name a few. A notable feature of Ina is her significant artistic talent, illustrating multiple promotional content for HoloEN as well as the majority of assets she uses for her VTuber activities.

Ina is infamous for her use of puns and dry delivery of "dad jokes."

Appearance

Ina'nis has long purple hair falling below her knees, she has purple flaps on top of her head, her side locks are similar to tentacles, are squishy and gradating to yellow on the tips, she uses a golden tiara. She has bluish purple eyes and pointy ears. She uses a black and white choker. Ina wears a two layered, sleeveless purple and yellow dress. The upper section is purple with a plaid pattern, while the skirt is yellow and has planks.

Around her waist Ina has two feathery, white wings. On her left side she wears a white detached sleeve and a high sock, both decorated with purple and white. Ina wears black and purple sandals. She can also optionally display a golden halo, that she can hide for streaming and multiple large purple tentacles, some with sparks, orange spots, hearts and other patterns that float behind her as they are not a part of her body, and the book "AO-chan" that floats near her.

Background

On 23 April 2020, following the success of the Japanese-language hololive VTuber group, Cover Corporation announced auditions for English-speaking members. The initial round of auditions ran until 24 May.

Ninomae Ina'nis auditioned for hololive on a whim. As an artist, she had spent much of her time in solitary art practice, and she saw hololive as an opportunity for change. She had not slept for over 24 hours prior to the live audition, which she credits for making her more talkative than usual. She sang one verse of a song, although described herself as having no confidence in singing, and spent the rest talking about food, including giant gyoza and Dr. Oopsie.

The members of -Myth- began training around June 2020, three months before their debut.

Ina's YouTube channel was created on 16 July, and her Twitter account was created in the same month.

On 8 September 2020, Ninomae Ina'nis was first revealed in a short promotional video alongside the other four members of hololive -Myth-. A simultaneous announcement was made at the hololive Twitter account, and the hololive English Twitter account. She made her first tweet on the same day: an 8-bit Japanese Dragon Quest screenshot translated as "Don't tease me! I'm not a bad tako."

Ina made her debut stream on 12 September 2020. She was the third member of hololive -Myth- to debut.

Mascot and fans

  • Her fans are known as Takodachi, a portmanteau of the Japanese "tako" (octopus) and "tomodachi" (friend). Her purple mascot character is also known as Takodachi, and is often used to represent her followers.
  • Like the rest of the holoMyth mascots with the exception of Bloop, Takodachi was designed by Ina.
  • On 30 March 2024, during Ina's sixth 2D costume debut, she also debuted floating Takodachi mascot.
  • Her floating book is known as the "Ancient Ones" but Ina calls them "AO-chan."

  • Despite her appearance, Ina'nis claims to be human.
  • Ina's current appearance and ability to control tentacles are thanks to the strange book she found. The book is nicknamed AO-chan, from the abbreviation "AO" (for Ancient Ones).
  • Ina appears to be inspired by the Lovecraftian mythos, a collection of stories featuring tentacled horrors, cultists to ancient forgotten gods, and old books of insanity-inducing lore. The book she found is likely a reference to the Necronomicon, a fictional grimoire in the Lovecraft mythos used to summon ancient supernatural evils.
  • Ina's illustrator, Kuroboshi Kouhaku, is well known for illustrating several Lovecraftian mythos-inspired servants appearing in Fate/Grand Order.
  • The label on the cover of Ina's book reads「このネクロノミコンがやばい大賞！」("This Necronomicon is the insane grand prize!") which is a reference to 『このライトノベルがすごい!』大賞 ("'This Light Novel is Amazing!' Grand Prize").
  • According to Ina, Takodachis are creatures of the void who are primarily shaped like octopuses, but can take other forms. Ina has also admitted various times to being a Takodachi herself rather than human, though she still denies any possibility of her not being human.
  • Ina has never met a Takodachi in real life, although other hololive members have seen people wearing her merchandise. She suspects the Ancient Ones are befuddling her senses to hide Takodachis from her.
  • Despite appearances, Takodachis' eyes aren't actually always closed. They're just narrow. They're described in TAKO∞TAKOVER as "sleepy eyes to hide your fears (such as a world without Ina)".
  • Ina's squishy orange hair reportedly tastes like Nintendo Switch game cards, which are coated in a bittering agent known as denatonium benzoate.
  • The purple ear-like appendages at the top of Ina's head are strictly speaking not ears, but are referred to as "flaps." The misconception that they were ears came from her debut stream, which Ina scolded herself for in her one-year debut anniversary stream.
  • Her flaps are designed to resemble the ear-like fins of the dumbo octopus.
  • While the tentacles she controls allow her to multitask, they apparently still require the same level of mental coordination. This leads to situations in which she has to rely on using her hands, despite tentacles being available.

  • Ina is a very talented artist. She drew the holoMyth members present in their introductory video, a few illustrations of herself, the cover of Mori Calliope's Debut EP (DEAD BEATS), the artwork of holoMyth's single "Journey Like a Thousand Years" and all of hololive EN’s first generation member's mascots with the exception of Gura's mascot Bloop to name a few. She has also drawn art used in official hololive merchandise, and occasionally draws fanart of her fellow hololive members.
  • Ina is infamous for making puns. Whenever she or another hololive member (sometimes other VTubers in general) makes a pun, the chat tends to say "INAFF." Pavolia Reine in particular shares her fondness for puns.
  • She has a habit of ending her tweets with kaomojis.
  • Ina has various introductory phrases: "Wah!," "Good morning/afternoon/evening," and "Ina Ina ii na~."
  • She is the fourth hololive EN member and tenth hololive member overall to join official Hololive Subreddit as a moderator.

On 5 May, Ina debuted her second 2D costume. Ina can wear two different hats, both hiding the flaps on the back of her head and one pulling her bangs back, revealing her forehead. She wears a gray striped blouse along with a black jumpsuit skirt, dark gray socks, black and golden shoes, and a pink bag. She can also wear glasses and move her hands to hold a brush and a palette. In addition, Ao-chan (Ina's book) now takes the form of a tablet after they uploaded their contents to the internet (It's easier to type without having to press each key one at a time with the corner of their pages). Because of bad internet, Ao-chan was only partially uploaded and isn't able to speak in this form.

On 20 May, Ina announced her upcoming first original song, Violet.

On 27 May, she reached 1,000,000 YouTube subscribers during a chat stream, making her the 15th hololive member to reach that milestone and the 4th member of the English branch to do so after Gawr Gura, Mori Calliope, and Watson Amelia.

On 4 August, Ina released her first original song, "VIOLET." She took a break for a week after its release, leaving Takodachis puzzling over the meaning of numbers and words in the song's music video.

On 15 August, her song "VIOLET" reached 1,000,000 YouTube views.

On 12 September, during Myth's 1 year anniversary celebration, the group revealed their official logo and announced that every member would get their third 2D costume.

On 14 September, during a Super Mario Party collab stream hosted by Gawr Gura, it was announced that Ina, Gura, Minato Aqua, and Houshou Marine would form a new unit "UMISEA," in which all four members shared the theme of ocean. Several videos and streams featuring the unit are set to be released throughout mid-September.

On 31 October, -Myth- debuted their first original song "Myth or Treat" during a Halloween collab with every hololive EN member attending. The song lyrics were written by Calli. The official video of the song was later debuted that same day on Amelia's channel.

On 11 December, Ina debuted her third 2D costume. In this costume, Ina has a new hairstyle having her long hair as low twintails that become curly and yellow on the tips. She wears a small black hat decorated with white ribbons that can be removed. Her outfit consists of a white asymmetrical jacket with a black left sleeve. Both sleeves are decorated with a chain of ribbons. Under her jacket, Ina wears a short dress with a pattern similar to those seen in a kimono. She also wears short black boots. 2022

On 6 January, hololive's Twitter account announced that both Myth and Council members would get new year costumes.

On 9 January Ina debuted her fourth 2D costume, a kimono to celebrate the new year. In this costume Ina got a new hairstyle using two buns to the sides in the shape of Takodachis that Ina called "tako buns" and long straight hair. One of the most notorious differences is that her side locks are much longer and the yellow tentacles are missing, Ina jokingly claimed that they are detachable, but instead, Ina has the option to wear them as horns. She also has a red rose ornament. Her kimono is mostly purple with a lot of different patterns. Notoriously, the white lines on her sleeves that create a grid are actually paint tubes on closer inspection. There are also various flower patterns and some cranes flying in the lower half of her kimono. The is blue and has a tentacle pattern. The obi also has every holoMyth mascot as decoration. Ina wears black boots. She can also wear a black with a rose pattern, a Takodachi bag with IRyS' logo on it, and a big black scarf. As with her other outfits, Ina can also display her tentacles.

The same day, holoMyth debuted their second original song, "Journey Like a Thousand Years."

On 19 March, Ina debuted her 3D model during "hololive 3rd fes. Link Your Wish" day 1.

On 28 June, on Amelia's channel, -Myth- held their first off collab, where every member was present.

On 30 July, as part of the "hololive Summer 2023" event, during a karaoke relay, Ina debuted her 3D swimsuit. The 2023 swimsuits are inspired in a sailor uniform. Members wear a two layered swimsuit, the first layer is blue from the straps going down diagonally to the center where each member has a mostly blue bow but one of the sides and the brooch are in one color representative of each member. The rest of the top is white. The edge has a semi circular cut. The lower piece of the first layer has two variants, one is a two layered blue skirt decorated with a white belt, a golden chain with some decorations hanging from it and a bow to the left and planks to the right. The second version is mostly the same but they wear blue shorts instead of a mini skirt. Ina uses the shorts. The second layer of the outfit is a matching striped bikini in white and another color depending on the member.

2024

On 30 March, Ina debuted her sixth 2D costume. Ina uses loose wavy hair, her tentacle locks are behind her ears. She wears a layered black and white dress. The white section has frills in the sleeves and it is decorated with four buttons and a black striped ribbon. The black section has a diamond pattern and puffy long sleeves. The skirt has two additional layers in shades of gray. Ina uses black boots. Ina can also use her main hairstyle and the bob haircut from her fifth costume. Ina's wings also become bigger. Ina can hold a whisk and a Takodachi cookie in her mouth.

On 20 May, during her birthday, Ina debuted new accessories for her fifth 2D costume. Ina has a hair clip decorated with 3 colored tubes and a Takodachi, she can also use her hood. Ina released her second original song "MECONOPSIS" on the same day.

On 31 August, as part of the ENigmatic Recollection project, hololive English members debuted a new accessory for their main 2D costumes. They wear the white and blue cloaks first seen in the project's introduction video and related concept art. The cloak includes a blue gem containing a symbol that represents their affiliated guilds.

On 12 September, during her fourth anniversary celebration, Ina's main model was updated to the 2.0 version. She has improved movements, especially on her flaps.

On 9 October, Ina began an unexpected hiatus due to company logistical issues which made her temporarily unable to undertake her streaming and social media work while in Japan. Her account was controlled by staff in the meantime. She returned on 18 October.

From 31 October, Ina returned to hiatus, filling the gap with a 6-part prerecorded Outer Wilds series featuring "Past Ina," uploaded by staff member Kumomane. She returned to streaming on 17 December.

On 21 December, she debuted her 3D Santa costume. The costume has two versions, red and white.

2025

On 14 February, Ina debuted the 3.0 update to her main 2D model. The update improves model's movements, adding new movements such as waving her hands, sticking out her tongue, and new expressions with effects. She can use a mouse, keyboard, game controller, and drawing tablet. Ina also got a new hat for her sixth 2D costume.

On 28 February, Ina, Bijou, Gigi and Raora debuted new Palico mascots as part of a sponsor by Monster Hunter Wilds.

On 9 March, she debuted her hololive 6th fes. Color Rise Harmony 3D idol costume during the event's day 2 STAGE 3. The costume has some variants, it can be black or white, complemented with a color representative of the talent. The midriff can be covered or not. One has variant has a skirt while the other uses pants, with one leg exposed. Aside for the design featured in promotional material, the costume also includes a short jacket.

On 12 May, Ina debuted her seventh 2D costume. Ina has a side ponytail with inner pink lights, her flaps are pointing upwards, she has a black headband. Ina wears a schoolgirl costume. She uses a long sleeved, white shirt with a black ribbon with an inner pink in the collar. Her skirt is gray with a plaid pattern. Ina has black socks with a white outline and black shoes. Ina can also wear a gray cardigan, a black blazer with lot of pins in the right, some resembling Takodachis, ribbons and bandaids. She can use a white eyepatch, put her hand up to her face and remove the eyepatch to reveal a pink eye in a reference to. AO-chan also has a different appearance resembling a manga with the title "Necronomicon" featuring an illustration of Ina and a Takodachi.

On 20 May, Ina debuted a new 3D costume during her 3D birthday stream. Ina has twintails with buns and wavy tips, her flaps resemble rabbit ears, her hairstyle is complemented with a silver headband. Ina wears layered white and black dress, the torso is the same as her main costume, but with a black skirt and. On top of it Ina has a white, coat-like dress with floral decorations on the right sleeve, it also has octopus patterns in the lower portion and transparencies. She uses black gloves. Ina wears long, white socks.

On 13 September, as part of their 5th anniversary, -Myth- members debuted a new hat accessories. Ina has a fluffy, Takodachi shaped hat for her seventh 2D costume.

On 23 November, Ina announced her first extended play "re:VISION" and TakoTori's first concert "Drawn to Dawn," at, Los Angeles, from 27-28 March 2026.

On 15 December, Ina and Bijou debuted new 2D costumes as a part of a collaboration with the game Monster Hunter Wilds. This is Ina's eighth 2D costume. Ina has short wavy hair, her bangs reaching just above her eyes, she can also use a octopus hat. Ina wears a long sleeved, black T-shirt with the print that read "IKANIMO TAKONIMO," the T-shirt also has blue paint stains and yellow horns coming from the sleeves. She uses black pants, with a torn right side. Ina wears black leather boots with yellow horns.

2026

On 6 January, Ina released her fourth original song, "TAKO∞TAKOVER."

On 2 February, Ina released her first EP, re:VISION. It was originally scheduled for release on 27 January, but delayed due to staff error. She held an EP release party stream on 3 February; this too had been delayed, due to a nosebleed caused by low humidity.

  • On 13 September 2024, AmiAmi announced Ina as its offcial ambassador. The collaboration included a special ambassadorship kick off stream on 28 September (27 PDT), monthly streams for the next year, in-store voiceover greetings, tie-in illustration products, and various other projects.
  • On 6 June 2025, hololive announced "hololive night," a collaboration with Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, featuring Koseki Bijou, Ninomae Ina'nis, and IRyS in commercials, merchandise, food, and drinks, as well as various activities, including a live stream from Dodger Stadium. The event took place on 5 July 2025, and anyone who purchased a ticket received three exclusive trading cards featuring the talents in the Dodgers uniform.

  • In Japanese, her name is written 「一伊那尓栖」.
  • Her surname, Ninomae, is simply written with the kanji 一, meaning "one." This is a kanji pun; "ni no mae" means "before two." It is an example of nanori, or idiosyncratic readings of kanji which only appear in names.
  • Her first name, "Inanis," is written with the kanji 伊那尓栖, which phonetically spell "inanisu." Phonetic spellings using kanji are more common in Chinese or historic Japanese.
  • "Inanis" is Latin, meaning "empty." It appears in the medieval Latin poem O Fortuna, in the line "Sors immanis et inanis," meaning "monstrous and empty fate." It was famously set to music in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, but this line is perhaps best known to video gamers for its appearance as a lyric in Final Fantasy VII's "One-Winged Angel."
  • She gives her surname-first, Japanese style, even when speaking in English. Takanashi Kiara and Gawr Gura also do this, while Calliope Mori and Amelia Watson use the English name order when speaking in English.

1. We Are Happy (or We're All Happy) First suggested by Mama'nis, who wondered what WAH meant. Mentioned in the Ender Lilies #2 stream on 24 August 2021. Ina described it as "kind of like a magical spell we put on ourselves, to tell ourselves we're happy."
2. We Are Hype First suggested by channel member Rayett Ray in chat of the original Ender Lilies #2 stream, as "we all HYPE".
3. We Are Here Actually first suggested by user Gravy in the the Ender Lilies #2 stream, although it went unnoticed. Canonized by Ina in the Mario Kart stream "Tako Eats Delivery Simulator", where it was first said by user LuckySevenSamson. The first three WAHs form the Triple WAH, a "slogan for the Tentacult", and are sometimes stated in different order.
4. We Are Horny (the Forbidden WAH); or We Are Hololive Actually first suggested by user fullofkk in the Ender Lilies #2 stream, as "we all h*rny"; user "shtoopeed hooman" also suggested "we are hololive" in that stream. Canonized in the Ender Lilies #3 stream and deemed the Forbidden WAH. The alternative reading of "we are hololive" was suggested in the EL3 stream by user Shiroi (TOZZVogh), and also canonized by Ina. "That's the Forbidden WAH. We don't say that in public."
5. Win All Hearts Coined by Ina after noting that "W" also stands for "Win."
6. Work At Home Actually first suggested in the original Ender Lilies #2 stream by user My Brain on Air, who attributed it to "slangit", though it went unnoticed. Canonized by Ina as the 6th WAH in a drawing stream after a Superchat by "Sigma".
We Are Hungry Coined by chatter "Crimson" and others in Cult of the Lamb #2, but this and several others coined in that stream were mysteriously ignored in the canonical numbering system, and were apparently considered apocryphal. We Are Hungry was also suggested in the original WAH stream (but not canonized by Ina) and re-appeared in 2023. Finally returned as a spray in holoGTA #2, where it is the slogan of Red Tako.
