Utai Meika (歌衣メイカ) is a male Japanese Virtual YouTuber who originally debuted in 2018 as the female VTuber and virtual cosplayer Utai Makea. In September 2018, she joined upd8. In January 2019, they gained their male VTuber form. Their female form is named "Makea" while their male form is called "Meika". In January 2020, Makea moved to a "producer" role in favor of Meika taking over as the channel's sole VTuber. In December 2020, upd8 disbanded and Meika returned to independent VTuber status.

The female Makea has a cooler, calmer, and more collected personality and tone of voice, in contrast with the male Meika who has a louder and more chaotic personality.

Appearance

Makea has long, sandy white hair with yellow highlights. Her eyes have yellow irises. Her hair typically covers her right eye. Her long hair is tied off to the left by her shoulder with a red hair tie. For her original design, on her body she wears a long gray knitted turtleneck sweater and sheer stockings on her legs.

Meika has short, slightly spiky sandy grayish-white hair with yellow highlights. His eyes have yellow irises and his hair covers his left eye, the opposite of Makea's. He wears a black hairband in his hair and he has sharp teeth. For his original design, on his body he wears a grey jacket with yellow accents and dark pants.

Various things happened, and I divided into a man and a woman. Now, at 18 years of age, the woman has decided to manage the man." This has since been changed.

Makea (♀) is the illustrator "parent" (mother) of the virtual Utai family. She is now in a producer role (also known as MakeaP), with Meika (♂) having taken over as their public face and streaming form.

2018

On 25 February, Makea made her debut on YouTube.

On 28 September, she joined the upd8 VTuber agency.

2019

On 14 January, Meika made his debut. This was triggered by an incident where Makea got into a fight with her younger brother Raito, and she split into Makea (♀) and Meika (♂).

2020

On 2 January, Makea announced that she was going to make Meika the main focus of the channel, and that she was going to become his producer.

On 31 December, upd8 ceased operations and Meika returned to independent VTuber status.

2021

On 21 December, it was announced that Meika would receive a new model. It was unveiled on 24 December. The new model was illustrated by K-SUWABE and modeled by Kanbutsu Himono.

2023

From 4 to 5 February, Meika celebrated reaching 400,000 subscribers on YouTube with a 2-part celebration totaling ~19 hours.

2026

On 10 March, Meika did a collab stream with Utai Itsumi and Utai Azumi (who came back from retirement), where they played R.E.P.O. together. Notably, this is the Utai Family's first collab after several years since Azumi retired (unofficially, since it's with Meika and not Makea). Meika's stream title humorously notes his own confusion on what his relationship with the Utai sisters is supposed to be.

* On 2 August 2020, Meika participated in Shibuya HAL's Apex Legends VTuber Most Cooperatitive Tournament (VSaikyou) together with Virtual Gorilla and Inui Shinichiro as team "Manliness 3000%" (漢度3000倍). Their team took 2nd place in the overall ranking.
* On 22 August 2021, Meika participated in Apex Legends VTuber Most Cooperatitive Tournament Season 3 (VSaikyou 3) together with Yakumo Beni and Odanobu as team "Obekka" (おべっか). Their team placed 16th in the overall ranking and won a PC as Shibuya Hal's special prize for placing his favorite number.
* Their team also won first place in the "Epe (Apex) Musume Legend Derby" relay racing event held on the night before the VSaikyou 3 main tournament.
* On 25 December 2021, he participated in the CR Apex Festival.
